Anthem RC Falls to NOLA Gold in 2025 Season Opener

Metairie, L.A. (February 15, 2025) – Anthem Rugby Carolina fell short to NOLA Gold in their 2025 Season Opener, with a final score of 35-14. Anthem Rugby Carolina will host the San Diego Legion next Friday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. at American Legion Memorial Stadium. HOW IT HAPPENED:

NOLA Gold started off the scoring in the 4th minute, taking a 7-0 lead.

In the 13th minute, Karl Keane made a strong run towards the Anthem try zone, but the drive ended after an offside call was made against Anthem RC. 

Anthem RC began to push the pace, as they scored a try and conversion in the 15th minute, but those points were revoked after an obstruction penalty during the play.

NOLA Gold was able to gain offensive momentum as they scored three try’s and conversion’s in the 20th, 28th, and 33rd minute before the end of the half.

The offensive momentum continued for NOLA Gold, as they scored an extra 7 points in the 49th minute of the second half.

In the 55th minute Anthem RC scored their first points of the season with a try by Makeen Alikhan and a Mitch Wilson conversion.

Anthem RC was able to keep their momentum with a try between the posts by Karl Keane for 7 points, making the score 35-14 in the 62nd minute.

In the late minutes of the second half Anthem RC had earned solid opportunities to add points to the board, but they were unable to capitalize.
