Anthem RC Falls Short Against the Seattle Seawolves
CHARLOTTE, NC (April 23, 2025) – A young Anthem RC squad could not keep up with the in-form Seattle Seawolves, falling 19-60 at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex on Wednesday night.
Anthem RC, deploying a fairly inexperienced lineup in preparation for another match day on the weekend against Miami, knew it would be a difficult match against the side from Washington, coming off a victory against the Eastern Conference leaders Chicago Hounds.
Seattle started the game quickly, scoring three tries in the first 20 minutes and stomping out to a 17-0 lead.
Line Latu burst through the Seattle line in the 24th minute. His run led to a couple pitches and Ethan Howard touched it down to bring the Anthem fans to life. Cam Gerlach converted the kick and Anthem cut the deficit to 10.
Seattle scored two tries in six minutes to extend the lead to 24.
Before the half, Anthem pinned Seattle deep in their own territory. Seattle turned it over shortly after a line out. Watson Filikitonga nearly scored, but he dropped it at the try line. Thankfully for the home side, Jason Tidwell secured the loose ball and scored.
Anthem trailed 31-14 at the half.
Seattle continued their strong play in the second half. The Seawolves knocked a penalty through in the 50th minute and then proceeded to score three consecutive tries.
Connor Mooneyham picked off a Seattle pitch in the 69th minute and took it to the house in the 69th minute.
Seattle added two more tries to the tally, closing out the game with a 60-19 victory.
QUOTES:
Ishma-eel Safodien on the team gaining experience:
“It’s all about squad depth. It’s important that guys get an opportunity. Credit to guys like Quinton Tindel and Neil Trainor for making their debuts tonight. It’s a special moment for them.”
Cam Gerlach on injecting young players into the lineup:
“We need all the depth we can get. We had more injuries tonight, but it is awesome to see some of the boys getting their debuts tonight. They gave it their best and we are going to need them the rest of the season.”
