Anthem Falls On The Road To Utah, 10-31
HERRIMAN, UT (May 30, 2025) – Anthem RC fell short against the Utah Warriors Friday night in a physical affair by a score of 10-31.
The victory secured a playoff spot for Utah.
It was a really physical start that would continue throughout the match. Anthem was not afraid to throw the body early, landing some big hits and making a couple strong defensive stands in the first 10 minutes.
Utah continued to knock on the door and opened the scoring in the 10th minute. The Warriors took advantage of a couple of Anthem penalties and Joey Mano scored his league-leading 13th try.
Five minutes later, Utah scored again. Dylan Nel touched down between the goalposts to make it 12-0 Warriors.
Anthem had their strongest offensive push of the first half in the 20th minute. Jake Turnbull was just held up off the ground after getting between Utah’s goalposts. Mitch Wilson opted to kick it though to put three points on the board for the visitors.
Utah had a quick answer. Cole Semu finished off a pretty offensive move for the score. A missed conversion gave the Warriors a 14-point lead.
Utah thought they scored their fourth try of the first half in the 30th minute. Liam Coltman powered in after Utah secured a line-out, seemingly extending the lead to 21 points. However, obstruction from the Warriors was spotted after review and Anthem dodged a bullet.
Anthem had a great opportunity to cut the score to single digits right before the half. Mitch Wilson burst through the Utah defense and was tackled just short of the try line. Anthem then knocked it on and that would conclude the first half. Utah took a 17-3 lead to the break.
Utah continued their scoring five minutes into the second half. Tonga Kofe pushed through the posts to dot it down and make it 24-3.
EJ Freeman thought he scored Anthem’s first try of the game. Hard work in the trenches led to Anthem tossing it to the outside and Freeman touching down. However after review, Anthem knocked it on just before the try line to bring the points back.
Utah added to their lead in the 66th minute. Freeman nearly picked off a Utah pass, but it instead cleared the way for Nic Benn to score.
Anthem finally got their first try in the 70th minute. Following a line out, Anthem pushed the pile to the try line and Dan Hanson tapped down for his second try of the season.
Anthem had more chances to score, but Utah held their lines and onto the victory, winning 31-10.
